In Chinese medicine dermatology is included in Wai Ke, or External Medicine. Though much of the diagnosis and treatment approach used in dermatology coincides with what is employed in other departments, the Chinese medical dermatologist applies principles in ways that are not immediately obvious to the non-specialist.
This class aims to use discussion of the treatment of specific disorders to point out the unique means of diagnosis and treatment used in the Chinese dermatology clinic. Included in this discussion will be treatment protocols using herbs externally including washes, ointments, and plasters. The discussion will also cover internal prescriptions, acupuncture and moxibustion.
