Lecture 1: TCM Pediatrics for Common Respiratory & Gastrointestinal Disorders
In the morning workshop, we will look at common disorders in infants, toddlers, school age children, and adolescents. These include the digestive disorders of nausea-vomiting, epigastric and abdominal pain, stomach flu, food poisoning, and colic; and the respiratory disorders of cold, sore throat, cough, and ear infections. Special attention will be given to TCM diagnostics and physiology of small children, practical tips for compliance of herbal medicines, and management of dysfunctional parent-child relationships. Herbal therapies are also applicable for adults.
Lecture 2: Diagnosis and Treatment of Leaky Gut Syndrome
Leaky Gut Syndrome is a chronic small intestine colitis initiated by antibiotics or early vaccination. Allowing absorption of metabolic wastes and poisons, it can be the root cause of asthma, food or pollen allergies, eczema, adrenal fatigue, and fibromyalgia. Because of the modern appearance of this syndrome, TCM has not given it much attention compared with the clinical investigation within Functional Medicine. In this workshop, we will discuss modern diagnostic tests, the physiology and pathology of LGS, and how to manage LGS within a TCM organization.
This is the fourth lecture series Jake Paul Fratkin, OMD, L.Ac. has taught for Golden Flower. He has proven to be one of our most popular lecturers, combining his clinical knowledge in Chinese herbal medicine with the modern contributions of Functional Medicine. He has focused on Leaky Gut Syndrome and its relation to chronic disease for over 15 years for both children and adults. His specialty in pediatrics is well known (he is a member of the Holistic Pediatric Association), and he sees this workshop as an opportunity to bring TCM practitioners more into family practice, and to address some serious pediatric conditions that defy Western medical interventions.
“Jake is a very organized and clear presenter. He has a great understanding of Chinese Medicine and is able to share the breadth of his knowledge with his students in very practical ways. They can immediately use this new information in their treatments.”
